About the Wilkesboro Tourism Development Authority

The mission of the Wilkesboro Tourism Development Authority (TDA) is to work with individuals and organizations interested in promoting tourism in order to identify, promote, and facilitate new tourism opportunities that benefit the Wilkes County economy.
|
|
The Wilkesboro Tourism Development Authority was established in 2001 by an act of the North Carolina General Assembly. The Wilkesboro TDA has 5 board members and meets monthly.
|
|
The Wilkesboro TDA is funded by occupancy taxes collected from guests of Wilkesboro accommodations. No property taxes are used to fund the Wilkesboro TDA.

The goals of the TDA are:
|

1) To foster tourism development in the area by offering grants to projects, attractions, events, and services which will boost tourism to the Wilkes County area.
|
|
2) To position Wilkes County as a desirable vacation and meeting destination.
|
|
3) To examine the range of existing visitor attractions and services, and to use this information to identify unrealized marketing opportunities.
|
|
4) To encourage longer stays, increased spending, and repeat visits of travelers to Wilkes County.
|
|
5) To work in cooperation with community organizations to achieve an effective, coordinated and comprehensive marketing program with high-quality collateral materials, programs and services.
|
|
6) To work with local government, business, and non-profit organizations to identify and develop new facilities, attractions, and services which will draw visitors, events, groups, and meetings.
|
|
7) To contribute to the economic development of and quality of life in Wilkes County.
|
