Wilkes County is located in Northwestern North Carolina. It neighbors Surry, Yadkin, Ashe, Alleghany, Watauga, Caldwell, Alexander and Iredell Counties. Wilkesboro is the county seat of Wilkes County.
The mission of the Wilkes Tourism Development Authority (WTDA) is to bring overnight travelers to Wilkes County to grow the local economy.
The WTDA is funded by a 6% occupancy tax collected from guests of accommodations in Wilkes County. No property taxes are used to fund the WTDA.
The WTDA was established in 2001 by an act of the North Carolina General Assembly. The WTDA has seven board members, and meets monthly on the second Wednesday of the month at 11:00AM at the Wilkes County Administrative Building in the council conference room.

The Wilkesboro Tourism Development Authority supports community initiatives that increases overnight stays in hotels and short-term rentals inside the Wilkesboro town limits. If you have an event, marketing campaign, or initiative that will encourage overnight visitation, you may be eligble to receive TDA funding support.
